Dead Island debuts one the best zombie trailers ever
We watch a plethora of game trailers here at Game Cauldron. We watch several featuring zombies, too. This Dead Island trailer is one of the better ones.
The trailer tells the story of some resort patrons and the horror they face on an island overran by zombies. It's elegantly put together and is rather engaging for a mere three minute trailer. There are some serious Lost vibes in it with the addition of zombies. If you're a big Lost person, you'll know what I mean. It's not a bad thing but it's the first thing I thought when watching the trailer.
The actual game, Dead Island, sounds like my heaven. It's 1-4 person drop in/out co-op, it's all about survival, it features primarily melee weapons, it's a first person action RPG, and it revolves around a beautiful island and decaying zombies. There's not one part of that I don't like.
Dead Island won't be about picking up random guns and blanketing lead into the undead. It's about surviving with the items found in a resort on an island. Supplies will be limited, they will degrade with use, and they will be mostly melee weapons.
IGN asks the question, "But will a first-person melee combat action game with RPG elements really work?" It's my experience that yes, it will. My Borderlands Mordecai playthrough consisted of nothing but guns with knives on them and points in Lethal Strike. My Fallout: New Vegas character sports a 100 in melee and won't go anywhere with her Oh Baby! and Knock-Knock. If I can, I make a melee killer in every action RPG that comes along. Dead Island sounds like it's tailor-made for the melee lover.
It's due out this year on Xbox 360, PC, and PS3.
